Lorenz Ritter
Lorenz Ritter (born November 24, 1832 in Nuremberg , † September 3, 1921 there ) was a German painter and engraver and student of Carl Alexander Heideloff .
Lorenz Ritter is the younger brother of the deaf painter Paul Ritter (1829–1907). Like this one, he studied painting and graphics at the Nuremberg School of Applied Arts , and traveled with his brother to Germany, France, Italy and Austria.
Ritter became known in particular for his architectural pictures and engravings from old Nuremberg. His best-known pictures include “The beautiful fountain on the main market in Nuremberg”, “The Sacrament House in the Lorenz Church” and “The Wöhrdertorbastei”; His portfolio of etchings, "Picturesque Views from Nuremberg" (1871–1876), found widespread use. Together with his brother-in-law Johann Georg Riegel (1832–1904), who was also a painter, he founded the graphic studio Ritter und Riegel.
Three of Lorenz Ritter's sons, Paul Ritter the Younger (1859–1888), Wilhelm Ritter (1860–1948) and Fritz Ritter (1868–1888), were also active as artists. Lorenz worked closely with his brother Paul Ritter as long as he was alive.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the death of his brother Paul, he was with the whole family of artists in 2007 from the Painting and Sculpture Collection of the City Museums, by a large exhibition at the Museum of Industrial Culture appreciated.
