The St. Lorenz Monastery was a Cistercian monastery in Magdeburg . It existed from the early 13th century until 1577.

location

The monastery was located in the old new town on today's Lorenzweg in the area of ​​houses 9 to 15. Nothing above ground has been preserved of the complex.

history

The monastery was founded in the early 13th century. The first nuns came from the Wöltingerode monastery near Goslar . The consecration of the monastery church is mentioned for 1209. In 1282 nuns of the St. Lorenz monastery formed the first convent of the new Cistercian monastery in Jüterbog .

Even after the Reformation, the Lorenz monastery initially remained and was only dissolved by the administrator Joachim Friedrich in 1577 . The remaining sisters moved to the Agnetenkloster .
