Lorenzo Alpert (* 1952 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine bassoonist and specialist in early music .

life and work

Lorenzo Alpert first played the piano as a child. He learned the recorder at a music school founded by Germans in his home country and sang in the choir there. There he began studying music in the fields of conducting and composition. He soon discovered his preference for the bassoon : “I need this resistance of the reed when playing [...]. I also always liked the deep sound of the bassoon. "

A tour with the Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez led Lorenzo to the early 1970s for the first time to Europe. Thereupon he decided to find his way into the performance practice of early music in Europe. He studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . He graduated with a concert diploma for old bassoons. One of his most important teachers was Jordi Savall . He invited him to play with the Hesperion XX ensemble. He played flutes and percussion instruments in this ensemble.

Lorenzo Alpert has been the first bassoonist at Concerto Köln since 1991 . From 2016 to 2018 he was the artistic director of this ensemble. Here he was particularly interested in making musicological knowledge effective in instrumental practice. On this basis, for example, he developed new concepts for the performance of Bach's Brandenburg Concerts .

Lorenzo Alpert taught historical bassoon and chamber music at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva until 2018 . He regularly gives courses in Italy, France, Spain and the USA.
