Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri (born September 8, 1690 in Bologna , † 1764 ibid) was an Italian composer and violinist.

Life

Lorenzo Gaetano Zavateri studied violin with Giuseppe Torelli and composition with Luca Antonio Predieri . Zavateri is an example for many Italian musicians who traveled as a violinist from court to court across Europe for a while. From 1725 he settled in his hometown of Bologna and lived there as a court and church musician. In 1717 he was accepted into the illustrious circle of the Accademia Filarmonica . In the notes of the "capella musicale" by S. Petronio his name is often quoted as a violinist or viola player. Zavateri's style corresponds to that of his time and is based on models from Antonio Vivaldi or Handel . Only two published collections are known of Zavateri. In addition to several nobles, his students included the violinist Francesco Landini, not to be confused with the early Renaissance composer of the same name.
