Lorenzo Maria Bottari

Lorenzo Maria Bottari (born August 29, 1949 in Palermo ) is an Italian painter and printmaker .

Life

Bottari was born into a large family in Palermo. The second to last of ten children, he was orphaned from the age of five. He received early artistic impulses from Giovanni Varvaro and his cousin Antonio Bottari, a former teacher at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Palermo. In 1968 he left his family to go to Florence . His early artistic role model at the time was Pablo Picasso . A series of trips abroad introduced him to a variety of artistic personalities, including Renato Guttuso , Ibrahim Kodra and Wifredo Lam . Another important artistic encounter was with the photographer Angus McBean (1904–1990). It resulted in the joint publication Dialogo tra Fotografia e Pittura (1987). After visiting the Instituto Marangoni in Milan (1973) and a temporary collaboration with the goldsmith Nicolas from Monopoli (1979), he dealt with the work of the German photographer Wilhelm von Gloeden in 1982 . From 1991 to 1993 Bottari was President of the Assoziatione Culturale di Multiart in Milan. He became friends with the writer Alda Merini , whom he reflected artistically.
