Lorenzo Palacios Quispe

Lorenzo Palacios Quispe (born April 26, 1950 in Lima , † June 24, 1994 ) was a Peruvian singer and musician. He performed under the stage name Chacalón ("Chacal" Spanish = "jackal" German). He was called the " Faraón de la Chicha " by his fans .

Chacalón was born in one of the barriadas of Lima on the mountain "San Cosme" in the district "La Victoria" in very poor circumstances. His father, Lorenzo Huaypacusi Palaces, whom he never met, was a dancer; his mother Olimpia Quispe was a singer. In addition to his mother, he was raised by his stepfather from the age of two. He had fourteen half-siblings.

Due to the poor circumstances and the alcoholism of his mother, he drew attention to himself in his early childhood through minor thefts. To support his family, he worked as a street vendor as a child. Together with his brother "Chacal" he already earned money with his singing. From 1965 he had his first small appearances with a band consisting of young people . But his main job was to work as an assistant to a shoemaker .

In 1968 his wife Dora had their first child. Four years after his birth, Chacalón married his wife in a civil ceremony.

Chacalon was admitted to hospital on June 24, 1994 with severe pain. There they were mistakenly diagnosed with cholera. In truth, Chacalon suffered from diabetes and tragically died from the wrong treatment.

Chacalón celebrated his greatest successes with his band “La Nueva Crema”.

Some of his best known titles were: Soy provinciano , Viento , Mi dolor , Ven mi amor , Cruz marcada , Por ella la botella , Dame tu amor and Triste y abandonado .
