Laurentius Scupoli
Laurentius (Lorenzo) Scupoli CRth (* around 1530 in Otranto , Italy ; † November 28, 1610 in Naples ) was an Italian Catholic priest , member of the Order of the Theatines and ascetic writer.
Life
Francisco Scupoli occurred in 1569 at the age of 40 years in the fledgling Order of Theatine, took the religious name Laurentius and welcomed the 1577 ordination . He was a student of St. Andrew Avellinus and Father Girolamo Ferro. Due to defamation, he was returned to the lay status in 1585 . Afterwards, living in solitude, he wrote his work " Der Geistliche Kampf " ( Latin : "Certamen spirituale" , title of the Italian first edition from 1589: "Il combattimento spirituale" ), which was very much dated by St. Francis of Sales , has been translated into several languages and is still being published to the present day. At the time of Scupoli's death there were already 60 editions of this work.
