Losang Jamcan

Losang Jamcan , also Losang Gyaltsen (Tibetan: བློ་ བཟང་ རྒྱལ་, Chinese: 洛桑, born in July 1957 in Zhag'yab , Chamdo ) is an ethnic Tibetan politician in the People's Republic of China . He is the chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the past chairman ( governor ) of the Tibet Autonomous Region and former mayor of the Tibetan capital Lhasa .

Life

Losang Jamcan was born in the Zhag'yab District of Chamdo Prefecture in eastern Tibet . From December 1971 to February 1976 he attended the Tibetan Nationalities College in Xianyang ( Shaanxi Province ) and studied literature. After graduating, he worked for ten years as an instructor and official of the Communist Youth League at the university.

In December 1986, Losang Jamcan returned to his native Tibet, where he was secretary of the Autonomous Communist Youth League. From 1992 to 1995 he was deputy head of the Communist Party and commissioner of Nagqu Prefecture in northern Tibet. In June 1995 he was transferred to the Tibetan capital Lhasa as deputy party leader. In May 1996, he was named mayor of Lhasa. From 2001 to 2004 he worked for the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China.

Losang Jamcan was named vice chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region in January 2003 and chairman in May 2010. On January 29, 2013, he was elected Chairman of Tibet by the Regional People's Congress. He succeeded Padma Choling , who became Chairman of the Standing Committee of Congress. As regional chairman, he reports to Chen Quanguo, the head of the Communist Party and top official of Tibet. On January 15, 2017, he was elected President of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Tibet Autonomous Region.

Losang Jamcan was a member of the 18th and 19th Central Committees of the Chinese Communist Party .
