Lost maze

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lost Labyrinth is a NetHack -like computer game in which up to 4 players can play on the same machine ( hot seat ). The game is licensed under the GPL Version 3.

Game mechanics

The game can be controlled with a keyboard, mouse and joystick. The focus is not on defeating monsters, but on reaching new levels. At the beginning of the game, the character's abilities can be freely chosen, so there are no fixed character classes. Each character has their own tactic. Unlike other Nethack successors, a game in Lost Labyrinth is relatively short, and the fun lies in trying out different combinations of skills, and not in leading a character to the end of the game.

history

The game was programmed for the first time in 1991 on the Atari ST with STOS BASIC by Frank Malota. At that time the graphics were 16 × 16 dots and 16 colors. Back then, people scrolled in blocks. A version in C ++ followed , but it never really became playable. The whole game was later rewritten from scratch using Blitz Basic . This version already had a clean pixel-by-pixel scrolling, and the graphics were 32 × 32 pixels in size with 256 colors.

The PureBasic version was mainly written to get the game to work on Linux . It now also runs properly under Windows and has overtaken the original in most respects.

graphic

The graphics are a bit similar to The Legend of Zelda . The playing field is finely scrolled. It uses some graphics from Angband , as well as other open source role-playing games.

Versions

There are 2 versions of this computer game, which are not directly dependent on each other, but use the same ideas. The original is programmed in Blitz Basic . Neither the programming language nor the game will be further developed. The new version is written in PureBasic .
