history

The Club de Deportes Lota Schwager was founded on May 10, 1966 in the city of Coronel , a port city in central Chile . The name of the club goes back to Federico Schwager, one of the founding fathers. Lota Schwager initially started in the amateur division of the Concepción region , but soon made a steep climb up to the Primera División , the top division in Chilean football.

In 1970, Lota Schwager was found in that league for the first time, after promotion was achieved in 1969 with a first place in Primera División B. In 1967 they had finished second in the second division, but just missed promotion. After jumping into the Primera División for the first time, the young club stayed there for ten years. In 1980, he was relegated to Primera División B, where they stayed until 1987 before returning to the top level of Chilean professional football. However, you then had to get down straight away.

In 1994 a severe financial crisis rocked the Coronel region, which did not stop at Lota Schwager either. As a result of these immense financial problems, the club had to relegate and restart in the Tercera División, the third Chilean football league. Until 2007, Lota Schwager was no longer in the Primera División. It was only in the said season that after relegation games against the Rangers de Talca, the return to the first class could be ensured. However, the following season in the Primera División was not very edifying and Lota Schwager immediately had to go back to the second division. To this day, the first division was not promoted again, Lota Schwager is currently in the second Chilean football league.
