Lothar Bach (born April 2, 1947 ) is a former German football player who was represented in the second division football of the GDR between 1968 and 1978 .

Athletic career

In 1966, 1967 and 1968 Lothar Bach and the company sports association (BSG) Kali Werra Tiefenort were each champion of the third-class football district league Suhl . While the Kalikumpel failed in the promotion round to the GDR league in the first two years , with Bach in the squad the promotion to the second division succeeded in the third attempt. With the 21-year-old Lothar Bach as a striker in the squad, BSG Kali Werra went into the GDR league season 1968/69. For Bach, the start was unsatisfactory, because in the first game in which he was used as a left winger, he was injured in the 70th minute. After a three game break, he only played for six minutes on his second appearance and was injured again. It was not until the 9th match day that he was able to play through in four consecutive league matches, only to then suspend three times at the end of the first round. In the 15 point games of the second half of the season he was used seven times and now also got his first four goals in the GDR league. In the course of his further career, Bach did not manage to play continuously in one season, with one exception. 1969/70 he missed seven of the 30 league games, but was still the top scorer of the Kali Werra team with six goals. The 1970/71 season was also unsatisfactory with only 19 league appearances and only two goals.

Then Bach moved to league competitor BSG Wismut Gera . From the 1971/72 season on, the GDR league played with five seasons, in which only 22 games had to be played. In Gera , Bach was scheduled as a left winger. He started with a season without significant failures with 20 appearances and three goals. After that, his further career was marked by numerous failures. When Wismut Gera was the season winner in the GDR league in 1974 and then took part in the league promotion games, Bach had previously missed eight league games. Even in the promotion games, Bach was of no help, because in the eight games he played through only once and was only used as a substitute five times. His team missed promotion as the last among five participants. 1974/75 was Bach's most successful season in Gera. After a few substitutions, he was a regular left winger in the league games from the 8th match day, made 18 appearances, scored goals with eleven hits and was second best bismuth shooter. Bach played a key role in ensuring that BSG Wismut was again the season winner. In the promotion round, he played all eight games, scored three goals, but his team missed the league promotion for the second time. In 1976/77 Bach was no longer part of the regular squad under the new coach Dietmar Pohl . He only came on as a substitute on matchday 13, but scored another goal immediately. Until the 18th matchday he was called up in three more league games, in which he scored his last goal for the GDR league team from Wismut Gera. This achieved their third season victory and this time made the league promotion. Bach was no longer involved in the promotion round.

After six seasons for the BSG Wismut, Bach moved within the city to the GDR league promoted SG Dynamo Gera . He went back to his old strength, played 18 of the 22 GDR league games and was again top scorer with seven goals for his new team after 1970. For the police sports community it was not enough for relegation, so that they had to relegate to the district league after only one year. Neither SG Dynamo nor Lothar Bach then returned to GDR-wide football.

In his eleven-year career as a GDR league player, Bach had played 152 league games and scored 41 goals.
