Lothar Gans (born February 17, 1953 in Osnabrück ) is a former German soccer player and soccer coach . From November 1998 to November 2017 he was sports director at VfL Osnabrück .

Player career

Gans began his career at VfB Schinkel, where he was active until 1971. Then he switched to TuS Osnabrück-Haste 01 as an A-youth , where he played from 1971 to 1973. In 1973 he went to the regional league club SV Meppen , where he was active until 1975. He then worked for VfL Osnabrück for nine years as a midfielder and defender , for whom he played 293 games in the 2nd Bundesliga and scored eight goals. He is Osnabrück's second division record player. He ended his career with SV Holdorf in 1985.

Trainer and manager career

Gans was the coach of TuRa Grönenberg Melle from 1987 to 1996 . Since 1996 he has been working at VfL Osnabrück in various functions (including marketing, managing director, coaching the amateur team, interim coach). From 1998 he was the sports director of VfL, in December 2017 his successor Benjamin Schmedes took over the office. In January 2019, Gans was honored for his long-term commitment at a home game between VfL and SV Meppen.
