TuRa Grönenberg Melle was a German sports club from the Lower Saxon town of Melle in the Osnabrück district . The club's soccer team played in the then second-class amateur league of Lower Saxony in the 1958/59 season .

history

On November 2, 1887, TuRa Grönenberg Melle was founded with the Melle gymnastics club . As a result of the clean divorce , the football department split off in 1924 under the name SV Melle . In 1935 the two clubs were merged together with the Meller Turnerbund and the dissolved workers' gymnastics club Einigkeit Melle and Deutsche Jugendkraft Melle to form VfL 1887 Melle at the behest of the local NSDAP leadership. At the end of the Second World War , VfL dissolved again. The clubs TuS Grönenberg Melle and TuS Einigkeit Melle were founded as successors on January 17, 1946 . To avoid confusion, TuS Grönenberg and TuRa Grönenberg were renamed four days later and merged with Blau-Weiß Melle in 1947 . With effect from July 1, 2003, TuRa Grönenberg and TuS Einigkeit Melle merged to form SC Melle 03 . At the time of the merger, the TuRa Grönenberg Melle had around 4,000 members.

Soccer

history

After many years in lower-class leagues, the Meller rose to the third-class amateur league 2 in 1955 and a year later switched to the newly created amateur league 8, the third-highest division behind the Oberliga Nord and Amateur Oberliga Niedersachsen. In the second year of the league membership, the table runner-up BV Quakenbrück was distanced with six points. In the following round of promotion , the Meller and SSV Delmenhorst prevailed against Eintracht Cuxhaven and Frisia Wilhelmshaven and were promoted to the Upper House of Lower Saxony. The decision was made on the last day of the match with a 4-1 home win against the direct competitor from Cuxhaven.

In the Amateur Oberliga West, however, the TuRaner had no chance and had to relegate directly as the bottom of the table in the 1958/59 season with 16:44 points together with the Cuxhaven SV . Back in the amateur league, the Meller were passed through to the district class in the following season 1959/60. In 1963, he was promoted back to the amateur league, where TuRa was instant champion. This was followed by the promotion round to the newly created Lower Saxony State League , where Meller, however, as well as Blau-Weiß Lohne and Bremervörder SC failed at Frisia Wilhelmshaven. Thus the TuRaner continued to play in the Verbandsliga West .

There, the team mostly fought against relegation. In 1966 they only managed to stay up after a 4-2 win in the decider against Rot-Weiß Damme . A year later, another playoff was necessary. The TV Bohmte was defeated 2-0 and the Meller benefited from the rise of the amateurs at VfL Osnabrück . In 1971 the team reached the final of the Osnabrück District Cup, but lost to VfL Rütenbrock 2: 4. In 1974, the TuRaner rose as a knocked-down bottom of the table in the district league. The low point of the season was a 0:12 defeat at TuS Lingen . Two years later went down to the district class.

In 1982 the Meller then went down to the Osnabrück-Land district league before being promoted again two years later. In 1987, the Turanians rose thanks to the better goal difference compared to SV Bad Rothenfelde in the district league, before they were promoted to the Weser-Ems regional league three years later . The Osnabrück SV 16 was during the season with 10: 0 defeat. In 1991, coach Lothar Gans' team won the Weser-Ems District Cup with a 2-0 win over TSR Olympia Wilhelmshaven . In 1996 and 1996, the Meller reached the district cup final again, but they were lost to the amateurs of VfL Osnabrück and TuS Bersenbrück . In 1999 he was promoted to the Lower Saxony league .

But the renewed jump into the highest division in Lower Saxony proved to be too big again and the Turans had to relegate immediately as the penultimate together with Lower Saxony Döhren . In the year of the merger in 2003, the team rose from the Weser-Ems regional league due to the worse goal difference compared to Vorwärts Nordhorn . Although the merger with TuS Einigkeit Melle was already in effect, TuRa still had to play under the old name in the district league for the 2003/04 season. The reason for this was that the registration deadlines for the 2003/04 season had already passed on the day the two clubs decided to merge. The last season as TuRa Grönenberg Melle was finished seventh in the district league.

TuRa Grönenberg Melle played its home games on Carl-Stracke-Platz. This is located in the sports center on the western outskirts and offers space for 4,000 spectators. The game was played on natural grass , the playing area being surrounded by an athletics facility. The foundation stone was laid in 1913. Six years later, the square was given its current name in honor of the factory owner Carl Stracke, who worked hard for the common good. In earlier times the sports field was also used as a riding arena , which repeatedly led to conflicts with the footballers. In 1970 the sports field received a floodlight system . In 2005 the next court was equipped with artificial turf .

The men's handball team has played in the first-class upper league of Lower Saxony since the late 1950s. In 1965 the TuRa handball players rose from this division and slipped down into the lower divisions.
