The Osnabrücker SV 16 (officially: Osnabrücker Spielverein 1916 eV ) is a sports club from the Weststadt district of Osnabrück . The footballers played for a year in the then first-class Gauliga Weser-Ems . In addition to soccer, the club also offers handball .

history

The association was founded in 1916, but disbanded again during the First World War . The successor was the street football club Jugendclub Spielverein 1919 , which lost its first home game against Osnabrück SV 08 with 1: 2. The club name was first changed to FC Spielverein and then finally to Osnabrücker SV 16. Towards the end of the Second World War , the game club got into the first-class Gauliga Weser-Ems, where the team was divided into the Osnabrück relay in 1944 . Opponents there included VfL Osnabrück , Raspo Osnabrück and Schinkel 04 . However, it is not known whether there was regular play during the season. After the end of the war, the associations had to disband on the instructions of the British occupying forces. The game club was re-founded as Osnabrücker Sportfreunde and could not take on its old name again until 1948.

In terms of sport, the team had to start over at the district level and in 1962 made it into the third-class amateur league 8 . Three years later, the game club qualified for the newly created, fourth-class Verbandsliga West . From this, the team was relegated to the district league in 1966, before moving down to the district class in 1969 and down to the district class three years later. It was not until 1978 that they were promoted back to the district class, which the club had to leave three years later before the game club was relegated to the first district class in 1984. After the direct rise, the return to the district class followed in 1987 with 60: 4 points, where the Osnabrück team immediately became runner-up behind 1. FCR Bramsche . In the promotion round to the district league, the game club initially failed 1-0 at VfL Wittekind Wildeshausen . Since district league champions Rot-Weiß Visbek rose to the Weser-Ems regional league, Osnabrück received a second chance for promotion. Against TSV Westerhausen / Föckinghausen , the game club won 4-2 in the neutral Belm and rose.

The relegation in the promotion season was followed by a steep fall. In 1990 the team was relegated to the district class and lost 0:10 at TuRa Grönenberg Melle . A year later, the game club was passed through to the district league and suffered a 1:14 defeat at VfR Voxtrup . Only one victory was achieved in both seasons. Back in the district league, the downward trend was stopped before the team was relegated to the first district class in 1998 with just one point and 23:21 goals. It was not until 2003 that he was promoted to the district league again. In 2009 he returned to the district league for one year and in 2014 for two years. Since relegation in 2016, the team has played in the Osnabrück-Stadt district league.
