Career

Club career

Metschies moved from the youth of Osnabrück SV 16 in 1980 to their big neighbor VfL Osnabrück , where he played his first nine games in the second Bundesliga as an 18-year-old in the 1981/82 season. He made his debut on March 26, 1982 in the home game against Hannover 96, on match day 28 he was substituted in for Andreas Loges in the 83rd minute. He was always in the starting line-up for the next eight games and played the full 90 minutes.

For VfL Osnabrück he completed a total of 174 second division games until 1988 before he left for 1. FC Nürnberg . On July 23, 1988, the first matchday of the 1988/89 season , Ulf Metschies scored the 1-0 winning goal for Nuremberg at FC St. Pauli in his first Bundesliga game . The FCN held the class this year only because of the goal difference, although he was tied with the table penultimate. From 1991 to 1993 Metschies played for Eintracht Braunschweig . After he hadn't found a new club after leaving Braunschweig in 1993, he allowed himself to be reamateurised and joined the BSC Erlangen , from 1995 he was under contract with 1. SC Feucht .

National team

In May 1982 he took part with the A-youth national team at the U-18 European Football Championship 1982 in Finland. He was used in all three preliminary round games, but retired with the team in the preliminary round. He also played twice for the German U-21 team .

Coaching career

As a player-coach, he took over SV Pölling from 1998 and stayed there until 2000. After that, exclusively as a coach, he took over SV Neuhaus-Rothenbruck. From 2006 to 2008 he worked as the successor to Thomas Ziemer at Henger SV . During the winter break of the 2008/09 season he returned to SV Pölling as a coach. In the 2012/13 season he was promoted to the District League South. After the following season he resigned as coach of SV Pölling and initially did not take a coaching job.
