Lothar Schäfer

Lothar Schäfer (born March 30, 1934 - † June 12, 2020 ) was a German philosopher .

From 1976 until his retirement he was professor of philosophy at the University of Hamburg . His best known work is The Bacon Project . In it he judges the ideal of Francis Bacon critically and raises the general benefit as an economic preference over pure profit . He demanded that technical innovations serve the general benefit of the people.
