Lothar Willms

Lothar Willms (born March 8, 1974 in Aachen ) is a German classical philologist .

Life

After graduating from high school on June 18, 1993 at the Ritzefeld-Gymnasium Stolberg , he studied Latin and French from the winter semester 1993/1994 to the winter semester 1998/1999 and from the winter semester 1994/1995 Greek at the University of Trier with the aim of teaching at high schools. As a DAAD scholarship holder, he studied the subject combination Lettres classiques (French, Latin and Greek) at the Université de Poitiers in the winter semester 1995/1996 . From 1997 to 1999 he was a research assistant and tutor for Latin and Greek at the University of Trier. On September 7, 1999, he passed the first state examinationin Trier in the subjects Classical Philology / Latin (1st subject) and French Philology / French (2nd subject). The subject of the written examination was the Philological Interpretation of the Zodiac in Avien's Phaenomena (verses 1014-1325) . From 1999 to 2000 he was a senior research assistant in the interdisciplinary project Classical, Psychology and Sociology Pain Experience and Pain Therapy in Antiquity at the University of Trier. In the winter semester 2000/2001 he was a lecturer in representation with four courses in the Department of Classical Philology at the University of Trier. On June 23, 2000 he passed the extension examination at the University of Trier in the subject Classical Philology / Greek for teaching at grammar schools. From the summer semester 2001 to the summer semester 2003 he was a lecturer for the introduction to Latin and Greek linguistics at the University of Trier (two courses). After completing his doctorate in classical philology at the University of Trier in 2004, he was assistant at the chair for Greek and Latin linguistics in the Department of Classical Philology at the University of Heidelberg from 2004 to 2010 . Since his habilitation in 2011 for the subject Classical Philology at the University of Heidelberg, he has been a temporary academic advisor there .

His main research interests are ancient drama, ancient philosophy with a focus on the Stoa (especially during the imperial era), historical linguistics of Greek and Latin, gender studies, especially concepts of masculinity and ancient political theory.
