Lotherton Hall is a country house in the village of Aberford in the English administrative unit of West Yorkshire . It is close to the A1 (M) motorway, approximately 320 km from London and Edinburgh .

A number of prominent families lived there in the past, e. B. the Nevilles (especially Archbishop George Neville , younger brother of Richard Neville, 16th Earl of Warwick ), the De Hothams and finally in 1825 the Gascoignes . Richard Trench Gascoigne took over the house in 1893 after the death of his aunt Elizabeth , the wife of Frederic Trench, 2nd Baron Ashtown . Following the death of Richard's father Frederick at Parlington Hall in 1905, Lotherton Hall became the family headquarters. From 1914 to 1918 the country house served as a hospital .

The house sits on part of the Gascoigne estate and was made available to the City of Leeds in 1968 by Sir Alvary Gascoigne and his wife, the last Gascoignes, whose roots were in Parlington Hall , to be open to the public.

A long line of endangered bird species and a herd of red deer are now on the property . There is a large lawn in front of the bird garden , which is usually used for ball games and picnics in summer . Behind the country house there is a field where exhibitions are often held, e.g. B. the annual motorcycle fair .

In the country house itself, which was fundamentally remodeled in the Victorian and Edwardian times , there are impressive collections of works of art that have been accumulated since the 18th century and are now open to the public.

Weddings and partnership ceremonies can be held in the country house.
