Lottus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lottusse SA is an internationally known Mallorcan shoe manufacturer that also manufactures and sells other leather goods such as leather clothing, belts and bags. The head office is in Inca on the Balearic island of Mallorca , where production takes place and a factory outlet is maintained. The company has been family-owned since it was founded in 1877; it is run by Juan Antonio Fluxà.

history

The company was founded in 1877 by master shoemaker Antonio Fluxà as a craft business. In 1920 Antonio Fluxà started the first series shoe production in Inca. In 1930 the brand name Lottusse was entered in the trademark register. The origin of the company name is explained by the fact that the company founder is said to have bought a sewing machine with the name Lotus in England at the end of the 18th century . From 1949 the sales branches in Switzerland, Italy, USA, France and Germany were established on a large scale.

Trivia

In 1975 Antonio Fluxà's brother designed a simple canvas shoe with a sole made of old rubber tires. Lorenzo Fluxà had seen such shoes among the Mallorcan farmers and therefore gave them the name “Camper”, Catalan for “farmer”. However, since this product line did not fit into Lottusse SA's handcraft-oriented corporate concept, it was outsourced. The company Camper in Inca produces and sells this shoe.
