Lou Adler
Lou Adler (born December 13, 1933 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American music and film producer and film director.
Life
Adler grew up in East Los Angeles in a Jewish-Mexican family.
Career
With Herb Alpert , Adler wrote the song Wonderful World for Sam Cooke , which was released in 1960 and has been covered several times .
In 1964, Adler founded the record label Dunhill Records, of which he was president and chief music producer from 1964 to 1967. In 1965 he signed the folk rock band The Mamas and the Papas with Dunhill , which caused a rapid increase in sales. In 1967 he sold the company to ABC Records for $ 3 million .
In 1972 he won two Grammy Awards for producing the song It's Too Late by Carole King .
Adler produced the cult film classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975 , and in 2016 he was also involved in the remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again as a producer. In 1978 he made his debut as a director with the film Much Smoke About Nothing .
Private
Lou Adler married actress and singer Shelley Fabares in 1964 and produced several of her songs. They separated in 1966 but were not divorced until 1980. He then married Page Hannah, younger sister of actress Daryl Hannah . The couple has four sons Manny, Ike, Pablo and Oscar.
