East Los Angeles (often shortened to East LA or East Los or El Este de Los Ángeles in Spanish ) is an unincorporated area and census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County in the US state of California , United States , with a population of 132,100 (as of : July 1, 2006). The geographical coordinates are: 34.03 ° North, 118.17 ° West. The urban area has a size of 19.3 square kilometers.
The city is bordered to the west by Boyle Heights , a borough of Los Angeles , to the northwest by the unincorporated area City Terrace , to the northeast by Monterey Park , to the east by Montebello and to the south by Commerce .
East Los Angeles is represented on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors by Gloria Molina . Police oversight of the area is exercised by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the responsible fire department is the Los Angeles County Fire Department .

politics
East Los Angeles is represented by several MPs in California law. In the California State Assembly, Charles Calderon in the 58th constituency , Kevin De Leon in the 45th constituency , Fabian Nunez in the 46th constituency, or Mike Eng in the 49th constituency, depending on the situation . In the California State Senate , East Los Angeles is represented by Gloria Romero in the 24th constituency, Ronald S. Calderon in the 30th constituency and Gil Cedillo in the 22nd constituency. In the United States House of Representatives, East Los Angeles co-determined MPs are Grace Napolitano (38th constituency), Lucille Roybal-Allard (34th constituency) and Hilda Solis (32nd constituency).
In the past, various attempts to elevate the settlement area to the City have failed . Nevertheless, the residents promote this cause, which is supported by Gloria Romero and Grace Napolitano.
Demographics
At the time of the 2000 United States Census, East Los Angeles was inhabited by 124,283 people. The population density was 6449.7 people per km ². There were 31,096 housing units at an average of 1613.7 per km ². The population of East Los Angeles was 6.77% White , 4.52% Black or African American , 1.29% Native American , 0.77% Asian , 0.06% Pacific Islander , 54.01% reported of belonging to other races and 4.22% named two or more races. 87.92% of the population declared to be Hispanics or Latinos of any race.
The residents of East Los Angeles distributed to 29,844 households out of which 51.7% were living in children under 18 years of age. 53.1% of the households are married, 21.7% had a female head of the household without a husband and 16.0% did not form families. 12.5% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 6.4% of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 4.15 and the average family size was 4.42.
The urban population was divided into 34.6% minors, 12.6% 18–24 year olds, 30.7% 25–44 year olds, 14.2% 45–64 year olds and 7.9% aged 65 years or more. The median age was 26 years. For every 100 women there were 101.6 men. For every 100 women over the age of 18, there were 99.2 men.
The median household income in East Los Angeles was 28,544 US dollars and the median family income reached the amount of 29,755 US dollars. The median income for men was $ 21,065 compared with $ 18,475 for women. The per capita income in East Los Angeles was $ 9,543. 27.2% of the population and 24.7% of families had an income below the poverty line , including 35.0% of minors and 13.5% of those aged 65 and over.
