Lou Yangsheng

Lou Yangsheng (Chinese: 楼 阳 生; Pinyin: Lóu Yángshēng; born October 1959 in Pujiang , Zhejiang Province ) is a Chinese politician and current governor of Shanxi Province . Originally from Zhejiang Province, Lou previously served as the secretary of the Lishui Communist Party . He headed the party's propaganda department in Hainan before being transferred to Shanxi.

Life

Lou Yangsheng was born in 1959 in Pujiang County, Zhejiang. During the Cultural Revolution , he worked as a rural youth in rural areas near his hometown. In March 1979, Lou was one of the first students to be admitted to university after Deng Xiaoping's higher education was restored . He attended Zhejiang Normal University and joined the Chinese Communist Party during his university years . He then worked as a middle school teacher in Longyou District. In 1984 Lou became secretary of the district's Communist Youth League, starting his political career.

Lou spent most of his political career in Zhejiang. In June 1997, he obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Zhejiang University . In 1999 he worked briefly as a visiting scholar at the University of Houston in the United States . He became mayor of Jinhua City in November 1999 and later became Lishui City Party leader. During his tenures in Jinhua and Lishui, Lou worked under the direction of then Zhejiang Party leader Xi Jinping . As such, Lou has been named by political observers as a member of the "Zhejiang Army," politicians who once worked under Xi and shared his government philosophies.

In January 2008, he became vice chairman of the Zhejiang Political Consultative Conference and head of the Provincial United Labor Front Central Division . In January 2009, Lou left Zhejiang to serve on the Hainan Party's Standing Committee and the division head of the provincial Party Organization. In 2012 he was transferred to Hubei, where he also held various party functions.

After the "political earthquake" in Shanxi in 2014, which resulted in the expulsion of numerous senior officials in the province, Lou was transferred to Shanxi province to become deputy party leader; he replaced Jin Daoming , who was fired for corruption. On August 30, 2016, Lou was appointed acting governor of Shanxi Province. He was confirmed in office on November 28, 2016, and appointed as the new Party Secretary of Shanxi Province in November 2019.
