Lough Sheelin ( Irish : Loch Síodh Linn , "Lake of the Elven Pond") is a calcareous body of water on the borders of the counties of Westmeath , Meath and Cavan of the Republic of Ireland . It is located near the towns Finea and Granard ( Longford ). The river Inny flows in and out of the river and flows downstream through Lough Derravaragh to the Shannon .
The lake's fish population consists mostly of trout, but the natural population has declined in recent years so that the Irish Central Fisheries Board has used large numbers to revive the sport of fishing. Now around 100,000 trout live in the lake again.
A popular Irish folk song is Lough Sheelin's Side .
