Weinert-Wilton films

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Weinert-Wilton films are a series of German crime films that were released in cinemas between 1962 and 1964.

background

The continuing success of the Edgar Wallace films meant that Gerhard F. Hummel , the production manager at Constantin Filmverleihe , was on the lookout for other filmable material that promised similar profit prospects. He found what he was looking for in the detective novels of the Bohemian writer Louis Weinert-Wilton , who himself used to imitate the style of Edgar Wallace in his works of the twenties and thirties .

For the film adaptations one fell back on different producers who made the films mostly with foreign participation. While the Spanish producer Alfons Carcasona was shooting The Carpet of Horror and The Secret of the Black Widow in Madrid , Wolf C. Hartwig chose Prague as the location for The Secret of the Chinese Carnation . With Die weisse Spinne , the only purely German contribution in the series was created under the overall direction of Gero Wecker . Constantin-Film was also able to engage popular actors from the Edgar Wallace films such as Joachim Fuchsberger , Karin Dor , Werner Peters and Klaus Kinski .

Gerhard F. Hummel set the start dates for the Edgar Wallace and Weinert Wilton films, so that Constantin-Film did not compete with the two film series. The first two Louis-Weinert-Wilton films were advertised with the words “Whoever loves Edgar Wallace will also be enthusiastic about Weinert-Wilton!” .
