Louis Weinert-Wilton , actually Alois Weinert , (born May 11, 1875 in Weseritz , Bohemia , † September 5, 1945 in Prague ) was a Sudeten German writer .

Life

Weinert came from a middle-class family and attended the Austro-Hungarian Naval Academy in Pola (today Croatia ) after finishing school . For health reasons he left the academy and the military with the rank of first lieutenant. He married and settled in Prague with his wife. There he worked from 1901 as an editor at the Prager Tagblatt , whose editor-in-chief he later became.

In 1921 Weinert was appointed "commercial director" of the New German Theater in Prague. Even as a full-time editor, Weinert wrote numerous stage plays . In 1929 he wrote his first two detective novels under his pseudonym Louis Weinert-Wilton . In 1936 he left the theater to live as a freelance writer in Prague. Weinert-Wilton published eleven detective novels between 1929 and 1939 by Goldmann Verlag in Leipzig .

reception

Weinert-Wilton, who wrote crime novels in the London underworld in the tradition of his famous colleague Edgar Wallace , died in 1945 in a Czechoslovak concentration camp for Germans in Prague. In the 1960s, as part of the successful Edgar Wallace films, an independent Louis Weinert Wilton crime film series was created . Numerous novels by Weinert-Wilson are still being published by Goldmann Verlag to this day.
