Louis Alibert

Louis Alibert (born October 12, 1884 in Bram , Aude , † April 16, 1959 in Montpellier ) was a French Romanist and Occitanist .

life and work

Alibert was a pharmacist in Montréal d'Aude from 1912 to 1942 , but had also studied Provençal studies with Joseph Anglade . After participating in the First World War and being wounded, he joined the Action française and the Félibrige and made significant contributions to the language description and language planning of Occitan and Languedocian . He hoped that Pétain's Vichy regime would significantly enhance and promote the Occitan language and culture. After the liberation of France, he was sentenced to five years in prison with the loss of public honorary rights for life.
