Louis B. Mayer Pictures was the name of a US film production company . The company was founded around 1917 by Louis B. Mayer and was merged into Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1924 .

Louis B. Mayer initially owned a cinema chain until he founded Metro Pictures Corporation in 1916 together with Richard A. Rowland . Mayer left the company and founded his own production company, Louis B. Mayer Pictures, in Los Angeles in 1917 or 1918 . The studio's first star was Anita Stewart , who poached Mayer from Vitagraph . Thanks to a partnership with BP Schulberg , Mayer Pictures soon became the Mayer-Schulberg Studio . 1924 was Marcus Loew , who now owned the Metro Pictures Corporationhad just merged with Goldwyn Picture Corporation , looking for a capable top manager to run the new overall company; Samuel Goldwyn was no longer available and Nicholas Schenck was needed in New York, where he was to run Loew's cinema business. The choice fell on Louis B. Mayer, whose company Loew therefore bought up and incorporated the new Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer . Louis B. Mayer became President of the new large company.
