Nicholas Schenck

Nicholas M. Schenck (born November 14, 1881 in Rybinsk , Russian Empire , † March 4, 1969 in Florida , United States ) was a Russian-American film pioneer and one of the founders of the Hollywood film industry .

Life

Nicholas Schenck was the CEO of Loew's, Inc. and its well-known subsidiary, the film production company Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer . Schenck stayed in New York City and was the manager of Louis B. Mayer , the vice president of MGM. In the 1950s, Schenck fired Mayer; shortly afterwards he retired.

In total, Schenck managed at least 100 companies and received one of the highest salaries in the film industry at the time. Some sources claim he was the eighth richest man in America during the 1930s .

Nicholas Schenck's brother Joseph Schenck was also active in the film industry, including at the helm of United Artists and 20th Century Fox .

Schenck was married twice, most recently to Pansy Wilcox, the sister of director Fred M. Wilcox . He was the father of three daughters.
