Joseph Schenck

Joseph Michael Schenck , Russian Джозеф Майкл Шенк (* December 13 . Jul / 25. December  1878 greg. In Rybinsk , Russian Empire ; † 22. October 1961 in Los Angeles , California , USA ) was an American film producer and manager various film companies involved in the development of the US film industry.

Life

From 1916 to 1934 Schenck was married to the silent film actress Norma Talmadge . He produced her films and was her financial advisor even after the divorce. After the founding of United Artists in 1919, Schenck was the company's second president from 1925. In favor of filling the executive chair of the film distribution company, it was not only his business knowledge of the film industry that spoke in favor of him, but also his contacts with his sister-in-law Natalie Talmadge and her husband Buster Keaton .

In 1934 he and Darryl F. Zanuck founded 20th Century Pictures , which distributed their films through United Artists. In 1935 her company merged with Fox Film Corporation to form 20th Century Fox , of which Schenck was the first president. Joseph Schenck's brother Nicholas was CEO of Loew's, Inc. , the parent company of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer .
