The all-electric house (original title: The Electric House ; Alternative title: Sweet Home - happiness alone ) is an American short film - comedy with Buster Keaton in the title role, which is also shared with Edward F. Cline was responsible for screenwriting and directing.

action

The Botany -Students Buster is certified by an accidental mix-up in a diploma that he by profession an electrical engineer was. He then received an order from a millionaire to equip his house with electrical appliances. First, Buster wants to clear up the mistake, but when he sees the millionaire's beautiful daughter, that changes. With the help of a book that the daughter gave him, Buster is busy carrying out the assignment.

When the millionaire family returns from their vacation trip, Buster presents his inventions. There are pitfalls with some inventions, for example people who go up on the escalator fall out of the window into the swimming pool several times. Much of it seems superfluous, but all in all, Buster has carried out his assignment so well that the millionaire family invites their friends to admire the inventions as well. The real electrical engineer, who lost the job by initially swapping diplomas, is now planning his revenge on Buster. He penetrates the house, causes all sorts of chaos and makes Buster look bad. Although Buster can ultimately defeat the opponent with the help of his inventions, his dizziness is exposed and he is expelled from the house by the millionaire. He then wants to take his own life and falls into the pool weighted down with weights, but the daughter saves him by letting the water run off. In the end, Buster is washed away by the water drain.

background

Buster Keaton had already tried to film a similar subject in the spring of 1921. But at that time he got into an escalator with his shoe on the second day of shooting, breaking his ankle . He then had to take it easy for five months. The finished film is the "second attempt", which was shot in the summer of 1922. The Electric House is a "gadget comedy" (invention comedy) that is typical of the technically interested Keaton. She draws her wit mainly from the fact that numerous crazy inventions are presented.

With Virginia Fox (1902–1982), who plays the millionaire's daughter here, Keaton made numerous films between 1920 and 1923. The actress later married the film producer Darryl F. Zanuck .

The film had its German premiere on January 22, 1926 under the title Trautes Heim - Glück alone .
