The Goat (original title: The Goat ; alternative title: Buster Keaton is wanted ) is an American short film - slapstick - comedy from 1921 with Buster Keaton in the leading role of the scapegoat, who also worked with Malcolm St Clair was responsible for the script and direction.

action

Buster Keaton strolls penniless down the street. He happened to look through a barred window into a police building, where he could see the prisoner "Killshot Dan", of whom a criminal card photo is about to be made. When the cameraman looks away for a moment, Killshot Dan ducks aside, pulls the shutter release on the camera and takes a photo of the Buster standing behind him without anyone noticing. Shortly afterwards, Killshot Dan escapes from captivity. Buster is shown in his place on the wanted posters that were later published. Unsuspecting, Buster strolls through the city. He observes a man who finds a horseshoe, picks it up, throws it over his shoulder for luck, and shortly afterwards finds a full wallet. Buster searches for the horseshoe and imitates the man, but hits a policeman in the head. On the run from the persecutor and his colleagues, he helps a woman who is having an argument with a man, throws the man down and finally escapes from the city by train.

When Buster arrives in another city, he sees his picture in the newspapers and on wanted posters for Killshot Dan and believes he killed the man who had been thrown down. He meets the police chief, who is eyed him suspiciously, who later becomes the target of an assassination attempt. The perpetrator fails, puts the smoking pistol in Buster's hand and tries to run away, whereupon Buster is pursued again. Having escaped, he meets the woman he had stood by and is invited by her to dinner. At her home he meets her father, who is the chief of police. The father chases Buster through the entire residential complex, but Buster escapes again and makes off with the police chief's daughter.
