In Theater (AKA: The Playhouse ; Alternative title: Busters colorful stage ) is an American short film - slapstick - comedy from 1921 with Buster Keaton in the title role, which is also shared with Edward F. Cline was responsible for script and direction .

In the first part of the film, Buster Keaton can be seen during a variety show, in which he not only embodies the conductor, but also the entire orchestra, the actors and everyone else involved in the show, as well as the ladies and gentlemen from the audience. It turns out this was just a dream for Buster Keaton, who had been napping on the stage equipment backstage . When he wakes up, he meets two twin sisters and falls in love with one of them, but has trouble distinguishing the person who likes him from the person who does not like him. When the orangutan trainer orders him to dress up the monkey for the demonstration, Buster accidentally lets the animal escape and has to act as the monkey himself. After a demonstration with people disguised as Zouave guards, there is a last number with one of the two twin sisters, who is supposed to be able to hold her breath for a long time under water, but remains stuck in the pool and is saved by Buster by smashing the pool shop window must be, after which the entire theater is flooded. Finally, Buster goes to the registry office with his love (now marked with a cross).

In the theater premiered on October 6, 1921 in the United States. The first part of the film, in which Keaton embodies the entire vaudeville ensemble, was a gesture to Keaton's contemporary Thomas Harper Ince , who generously recognized himself in the credits of his productions. The film had its German premiere under the title Buster's colorful stage .
