action

In this variation of Pyramus and Thisbe , Buster Keaton and Virginia Fox play young lovers. The two lovers live directly across from each other, only separated by a courtyard with a wooden fence through which they slice messages. Everything could be fine. But their two families are enemies with each other. The girl's father in particular does not believe in the connection. There is an argument between the boy and the girl's father, which comes to a head and also involves the police and the boy's father. Only in court can the dispute be settled by the justice of the peace and the marriage is decided. During the wedding ceremony, however, the girl's father notices that the wedding ring the boy bought came from the bargain store, whereupon he angrily cancels the ceremony and drags his daughter home. In order to be happy together, the boy kidnaps the girl. While on the run, the two of them run into the justice of the peace, who finally completes the wedding ceremony.
