The Paleface (original title: The Paleface ; Alternative title: The Pale face ) is an American short film - slapstick - comedy from 1922 with Buster Keaton in the title role, who was also responsible for screenwriting and directing.

action

Through the machinations of a criminal who killed an Indian messenger and stole the deed of transfer for the land of the Indians, greedy oil seekers came into possession of the deed. With the law on their side, they ask the Indian tribe to evacuate the area. The angry chief then announces that he will kill the first white man to step through the gate to Indian land. A butterfly collector appears on the hunt (Keaton) in Indian country, whereupon he is tied to a stake and is to be burned. The pale face is able to free itself and takes refuge in a nearby hut, where it finds refractory asbestos , which it uses to make refractory underwear. Captured again, the Indians put their plan into action. When they notice that the pale face does not burn, they adore it and accept it into their community as a full member of the tribe with the name "Little Chief Pale Face". Later the chief shows the pale face the demands of the oil seekers. Indignant about this, the pale face pays a threatening visit to the greedy together with the Indians. The leader of the oil prospectors flees, however, captures the pale face during the subsequent chase, forces it to swap clothes with him and is thus able to escape. After some friction with the Indian friends, who temporarily mistook the pale face for the chief of the oil explorers, as well as another Indian tribe, the pale face finds the transfer document in a pocket of his new clothes, which it returns to the Indians. In gratitude for this, a young Indian woman gets it to wife.
