The Louis Brandeis House is the former home of the US Federal Judge Louis Brandeis , registered as a National Historic Landmark in the National Register of Historic Places , which he used as a summer retreat from 1922 to 1941 . It stands on the city of Chatham in the state of Massachusetts of the United States and is still owned by the family.
description
The house stands in the middle of a large field, but is surrounded by an almost 4 m high hedge so that only the roof can be seen from close up. The building, erected at the beginning of the 19th century, is one and a half stories high and has a steep gable roof , into which dormer windows were probably set in at the beginning of the 20th century . The windows can be secured with blue shutters. Together with the dormer windows, a two-story kitchen and another one-story extension were added, which contains a laundry room, a servants' room, three guest rooms and a garage.
About 25 ft (7.6 m) northwest of the main house is a smaller cabin that contained additional sleeping options. On the way there was once a windmill that supplied the house with drinking water. However, it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1944. The house has largely been preserved in its original condition and has been regularly repaired.
Inside, a corridor leads to the fireplace. On the left a door leads into the living room, on the right into the bedroom. Both rooms lead into the large dining room at the rear. In the northeast corner there is a toilet and a small bathroom.
