Louis Chauvet (born February 16, 1664 in Pertuis , † June 21, 1710 in Levesville la Chenard, Canton of Voves ) was a French Roman Catholic priest and founder of the order .

life and work

Chauvet came from Quinson on his father's side and from Cadenet on his mother's side , and grew up with numerous siblings and half-siblings in a wealthy family in Pertuis. He was ordained a priest in Avignon in 1688 and was chaplain in Cergy and Champrond-en-Gâtine, Canton Nogent-le-Rotrou , until 1694 . Then, meanwhile as a doctor of theology, he became pastor of Levesville la Chenard, 35 km southeast of Chartres, where he lived in 1696 together with Marie-Anne de Tilly (born March 8, 1665 in Allaines, Canton Voves) and against the resistance of the villagers Community of the "Filles de l'Ecole" (school daughters) founded, which he trained to such an extent that they could open schools for girls in the local area and in the surrounding villages (in the service of the poor) and also take care of the sick. The models were Saints Pierre Fourier and Vincent de Paul .

The community flourished despite a series of deaths. The first superior, Marie Micheau, died on November 15, 1702, followed by the co-founder Marie-Anne de Tilly (September 28, 1703), the founder Catherine de Bellouys (January 19, 1708) and the school sister Catherine Sirou (January 28 1708). Shortly before his death in 1708, Bishop Paul Godet des Marais (1647–1709) brought the community to Chartres . Finally Chauvet died in 1710, but the community already comprised 20 sisters and had a great future ahead of them. Not only did the Paul Sisters of Chartres ( Soeurs de Saint-Paul de Chartres ) and their worldwide missionary movement emerged from it, but indirectly also the Federation of Vincentian Communities , mediated through the Strasbourg location , i.e. all the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent von Paul in German-speaking countries. In the parish church of Pertuis, the founder of the order is commemorated on a plaque.
