Louis Fleury

Louis François Fleury (born May 24, 1878 in Lyon , † June 10, 1926 in Paris ) was a French flautist and music journalist.

Life

Fleury studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Paul Taffanel and was awarded a Premier Prix in 1900 . In 1902 he joined the Société Moderne des Instruments à Vent and in 1905 succeeded Georges Barrère as its director. In the following 20 years he commissioned more than 100 new chamber music works. In 1913 he played the world premiere of Claude Debussy's Syrinx . Fleury was also active as an orchestral musician, but concentrated on chamber music in his performances that took him through Europe and America. He was also active as a music writer and edited numerous compositions for the flute from the 18th century.
