Josef Molák

Josef Molák (born April 29, 1893 in Zakowitz ; † August 18, 1943 in Beroun ) was a Czechoslovak politician ( KPTsch ), trade unionist and resistance fighter against the Nazi occupation .

Life

Molák joined the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia (KPTsch) in 1921, from 1932 to 1938 he was secretary of the Red Trade Unions ( Rudé odbory in Czech ) in Most and a member of the local city council for the KPTsch. In 1938/39 he worked for the consumer cooperative "Včela (Bratrství)" in Prague , and from spring 1939 to summer 1941 he was warehouse manager of the cooperative in Hořelice .

Since the occupation of the rest of Czechoslovakia in March 1939 , Molák participated in the resistance against the German occupiers. In the summer of 1941, Molák went underground. From 1941 to 1943 it belonged to the II., Then the III. Illegal leadership of the CPC. Molák was at the head of the communist resistance in Beroun, where he also published the illegal newspaper Rudé právo .

Molák was betrayed to the Gestapo by Jaroslav Fiala . He was shot dead when he was arrested.

Honors

  • In Prague (Karlin district), Rudná u Prahy , Brno (Líšeň district) and Ostrau (Polanka nad Odrou district) each street is named after him ( ul. Molákova ).
  • In March 1973, the Czechoslovak Post issued a special stamp in honor of Molák and Ján Osoha as part of the fight against the fascist occupation series .
  • A memorial stone in Beroun commemorates him. In addition, his name is engraved on the memorial for the victims of the First and Second World Wars (victims of persecution 1939–1945) in Rudná.
