Louis François Foucher Comte de Careil (born February 18, 1762 in Guérande , † August 22, 1835 in Garches ) was a French general de division of the artillery .

Life

On September 1, 1781 Fouche de Careil began his service as a cadet at the École d'application de l'artillerie et du génie in the fortress of Metz .

He fought in the Battle of Austerlitz (December 2, 1805), the Battle of Jena and Auerstedt (October 14, 1806) and in the Napoleonic Wars in Spain (1808). During the Russian campaign he was wounded in the Battle of Borodino (September 7, 1812).

When Napoleon abdicated, Foucher de Careil served King Louis XVIII. first as lieutenant du roi , then later as commissaire du roi . As such, he represented the French king in negotiations with the city of Hamburg (see also the Hamburg French period )

Foucher de Careil later gave up all his offices and posts and settled in Garches. He died on August 22nd, 1835 at the age of 73, where he found his final resting place.
