Louis Garfinkle

Louis Garfinkle (born February 11, 1928 in Seattle , Washington , † October 3, 2005 in Studio City , California ) was an American screenwriter .

Life

Garfinkle graduated from the University of Southern California with a bachelor's degree in 1948 . In later years he was involved in developing Collaborator, an interactive writing program for developing scripts. It is said to have been in frequent use in Hollywood in the early 1990s.

He has appeared as a screenwriter since 1956 and was involved in more than a dozen productions by the early 1990s, with a focus on cinema films. For his work on the screenplay for Die durch die Hölle he was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Original Screenplay in 1979 together with Deric Washburn , Michael Cimino and Quinn K. Redeker . They also received a Writers Guild of America Award nomination .

As a producer, Garfinkle was involved in one film each in 1958, 1959 and 1970. In 1971 he staged Beautiful People , but this one directorial work remained.
