Louis Lang (born November 2, 1861 in Porrentruy ; † August 13, 1937 there , Catholic , resident in Hämikon ) was a Swiss watch manufacturer .

Life

Louis Lang was born on November 2, 1861 in Porrentruy as the son of the watch case maker Jacob Lang and his wife Marianne, née Merlin. After the early death of his mother, Louis Lang lived with his uncle, the watch manufacturer Jules Merlin. He initially completed an apprenticeship as a watch case maker before setting up on his own in 1887. With the financial support of his uncle, with whom he still lived, he specialized in watch case in silver .

Around 1900 he built a new factory in Pruntrut and began to manufacture metal watch shells with rolled gold plating ( rolled gold doublé ). He was one of the first to push the production of cases made of stainless steel , later also of waterproof cases. In addition, Louis Lang acted as President of the Fédération suisse des fabricants de boîtes de montres en argent until 1933 . Louis Lang died on August 13, 1937 in Pruntrut.
