Louis Le Pensec (born January 8, 1937 in Mellac , Département Finistère ) is a French politician of the Parti socialiste (PS), who was a member of the National Assembly and the Senate and was several times a minister.

Life

Le Pensec graduated from Rennes University with a degree in economics and worked as a teacher and management consultant.

In the elections of March 11, 1973, Le Pensec was elected for the first time as a candidate for the Parti Socialiste as a member of the National Assembly and represented the interests of the constituency of Finistère VIII there until September 27, 1998 .

On May 22, 1981, Le Pensec was appointed by Prime Minister Pierre Mauroy as Minister for Maritime Affairs (Ministre de la Mer) in his cabinet and held this ministerial office until the cabinet reshuffle on March 22, 1983.

He was then a temporary member of the Parliament's Committee on National Defense and Armed Forces, the Committee on Production and Trade and the Committee on Foreign Affairs between 1986 and 1988, and budget rapporteur from June 1987 to May 1988.

Prime Minister Rocard appointed him on May 23, 1988 again as Minister of Maritime Affairs in the first cabinet before it as part of a government reshuffle in Rocard second Cabinet Minister for Overseas Departments and Territories (Ministre des départements et Territoires d'outre-mer) was . He also held this post in the subsequent governments of Edith Cresson and Pierre Bérégovoy until March 29, 1993. At the same time, he was government spokesman in the second Rocard cabinet from February 14, 1989 to May 16, 1991 (Porte Parole du Gouvernement) .

He was then again temporarily a member of the parliamentary committee for production and trade, the committee for national swearing-in and armed forces and the committee for constitutional law, legislation and general administration of the republic.

In the government of Prime Minister Lionel Jospin , Le Pensec finally became Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries (Ministre de l'Agriculture et de la Pêche) on June 4, 1997 and held this ministerial office until October 20, 1998.

After leaving the National Assembly, he was elected a member of the Senate for the first time on September 27, 1998 and was a member of it until September 30, 2008. During this time he was temporarily a member of the Senate Committee on Culture, the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Senate Committee on National Swearing and Armed Forces. He was also a member of the Senate delegation for the European Union .
