Cabinet Rocard I
The Rocard I cabinet was the French government from May 10, 1988 to June 22, 1988 under Prime Minister Michel Rocard . Rocard was appointed on May 10, the list of other members of the government published on May 13 and 14.
The government succeeded the Chirac II cabinet , which resigned after the 1988 presidential election . The re-elected socialist president François Mitterrand wanted to end cohabitation with the Gaullists and centrists after his election victory by appointing a socialist Prime Minister with Rocard and dissolving the National Assembly . The government was therefore only in office as a transition until the conclusion of the parliamentary elections in 1988 and accordingly resigned shortly after them. The Rocard II cabinet emerged from it.
In addition to members of the Parti Socialiste and its alliance partner Mouvement des radicaux de gauche , the cabinet also included some non-party members and members of the Union pour la démocratie française .
