Cabinet Juppé II
The Cabinet Juppe II was of 7 November 1995 to 2 June 1997, the 26th Government of the fifth French republic .
The previous Juppé government resigned on November 7, 1995. President Jacques Chirac immediately commissioned Alain Juppé to form a government, and the other members of the government were appointed on the same day. Compared to the Juppé I cabinet, the size of the government has been significantly reduced: the Juppé I cabinet still comprised 43 people (Prime Minister, 26 Ministers, 2 Associate Ministers and 14 State Secretaries), now there were only 33 (Prime Minister, 16 Ministers, 11 Associate Ministers and 5 State Secretaries) ). Like its previous governments, Balladur and Juppé I, this government relied on the overwhelming majority of the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR) and Union pour la démocratie française (UDF) in the National Assembly .
The end of the government initiated the premature dissolution of the National Assembly by Jacques Chirac on April 21, 1997. The government resigned one day after the second round of the 1997 general election . After the right-wing camp lost a majority in the National Assembly in the election, the Jospin government under the Socialist Prime Minister Lionel Jospin succeeded it, and the third cohabitation began .
