Kerem Can

Kerem Can (* 1977 in Berlin ) is a German - Turkish actor .

Life

Can grew up in his native Berlin. His parents are from Istanbul ; his father is a shipbuilding engineer . His grandmother came from the Balkans and was a French teacher; therefore Can's first foreign language was French. He studied acting at the Académie du 7ème Art in Paris (2001/2002), then from 2002 to 2003 at the Mountview Academy of Drama in London and in 2005 at the Institute for Drama, Film and Television Professions (iSFF). He also had private acting lessons from Ulrich Matthes and Elke Petri .

He had theater engagements at the Théatre de la Plaine in Paris (2001; as Youssef in The Caucasian Chalk Circle ), in Hebbel am Ufer (2004, as “The Prayer” in The Prayer Cell ; directed by Fatih Akin ), at the Lublin State Theater / Theater Zerbelte Fenster , Berlin (2005; as prince in Yvonne, the Burgundy princess of Witold Gombrowicz ) and at the Bauhaus Dessau (2006). In 2006 and 2007 he played again in Hebbel am Ufer, u. a. the Paris in Romeo and Juliet (Director: Neco Çelik ). He had other engagements at the Theaterforum Kreuzberg (2007) and at the Neuköllner Oper (2008–2010).

Since 2006 Can has also been working for cinema and television in Germany and Turkey. Can made his television debut in Germany in 2006 with a very small role as a waiter in the television series Section 40 . in the Turkish television series İki Yabancı he had a continuous supporting role as Ömer in 2007. In the movie Leroy he played Zoltan, an anti-aggression coach and member of the Antifa committee. In the German TV film Und Jimmy went to the rainbow (2008), a remake of the novel of the same name by Johannes Mario Simmel , Can had a supporting role as Nora Hill's servant Georg. In 2010 he was seen in the crime series In the Face of the Crime in a continuous supporting role; he played Typhoon, a member of the "Brigade". In the ZDF television film Liebeskuss am Bosporus (2011), with Tim Bergmann and Jasmin Gerat in the leading roles, he played Serkan Aksoy, the brother of the main female character Didem Aksoy. In the ZDF television film Nobody is an Island (2011), another Simmel film, he had a supporting role as Josch alongside Iris Berben .

He had one of the leading roles in the Turkish film Zenne Dancer (2012). He played Can, a dazzling, garish, and proud gay male belly dancer . Can received a nomination for “Best Actor” at the Antalya International Film Festival (Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival) for his role. In 2013, Can played one of the leading roles in the feature film 5 Years of Life . He played Selçuk Bilgin, the friend of the German-Turkish Murat Kurnaz , who was held in the prison camp of the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base for more than five years, who was involved in criminal machinations .

Can also had episode roles in the television series GSG 9 - Your Use Is Her Life (2008), Lasko - Die Faust Gottes (2010; as a gangster and hit man Luca) and Die Stein (2011).

In September 2015, Can was seen in the first two parts of the five-part ZDF series Blochin - The Living and the Dead in a supporting role as the drug dealer Achmed. In the ZDF crime series Kommissarin Heller , he played the seriously heart-sick restaurant owner Jussuf Mousa, one of the male hostages, in the film Silhouette (first broadcast: November 2015).
