Hervé Gaymard

Hervé Gaymard (born May 31, 1960 in Bourg-Saint-Maurice ) is a French politician ( UMP ) of the Gaullists and a temporary councilor.

Education

Gaymard was the son of a small merchant. He completed a law degree at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and a degree at the elite administration college ENA (final year " Denis Diderot ").

Professional career

From 1986 to 1990 Gaymard was head of studies and lecturer in public finance and finance at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris, during the same period he was civil administrator in the Ministry of Budget , responsible first for the defense budget, then for post and telecommunications. He was then financial attaché for the Near and Middle East in the French Embassy in Cairo until 1992, before becoming office manager for pension financing in the Ministry of Budget from 1992 to 1993. From 1998 to 2002/3 Gaymard was chairman of the Society for Studies on Snowfall and Avalanches ANENA. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Solidarity Fund of the German Pension Insurance and of the National Council for Mining.

Ministerial career

Under the government of Alain Juppé , Gaymard became State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance in 1995 . In the same year he moved to the Ministry of Health and Social Security , where he remained State Secretary until 1997. In 2002 he was appointed Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Rural Affairs during the term of office of Jean-Pierre Raffarin . From 2004 to 2005 he was Minister for Economy, Finance and Industry . As a result of an affair about his official apartment (600 m², 14,000 euros monthly rent) in 2005, Hervé Gaymard resigned from his position and reimbursed part of the costs. He also owns his own smaller apartment in Paris as well as several other properties.

Parliamentary career

Gaymard became a member of the Savoie department in 1993 , and was appointed to the government of Michel Barnier . Four years later he became a member of the Savoy.

From 1993 to 2002 he was a member of the Commission for Finance, Economics and Planning, and from 1993 to 1994 he was appointed Parliamentary Commissioner by Prime Minister Édouard Balladur . In the meantime he prepared his report on the right to several activities . From 1994 to 1995 he was a member of a special commission on two bills on bioethics , in 1998 he was a member of a special commission on a bill on the prevention of social exclusion. From 1999 to 2000 he was a member of a commission of inquiry into the transparency and hygiene measures of the hospitality industry in France , from 2000 to 2002 Gaymard was a member of the special commission on the legislative proposal for a framework directive relating to financial legislation.

Gaymard is also Deputy Chairman of the Study Group on Social Security and Chairman of the France- Somalia Friendship Society and the France- Eritrea Study Group .

Electoral mandates

In 1994 Gaymard became chairman of the district council of Moûtiers in the Savoie and chairman of the commission for social life of the regional council of the Savoie. Five years later he became chairman of the Savoie Regional Council; he resigned when he was appointed to the government in 2002.

Private

He is married to Clara Lejeune and has eight children. He is considered a lover of literature and comics .
