Jean-Pierre Fourcade (born October 18, 1929 in Marmande , Lot-et-Garonne ) is a French politician ( RI , UDF , UMP ). He was Minister of Finance and Economy from 1974 to 1976, Senator from 1977 to 2011 and Mayor of Boulogne-Billancourt from 1995 to 2007 .

Life and political career

Fourcade graduated from the Institut d'études politiques de Bordeaux as well as a law degree at the University of Bordeaux and went through the elite university École nationale d'administration (ENA; graduating class 1954 "Félix-Éboué"). He then worked as a finance inspector.

As a member of the conservative-liberal Républicains indépendants , he was elected mayor of the city of Saint-Cloud , a western suburb of Paris, in 1971 . He held this office until 1992. From 1973 to 1989 he was also a member of the Conseil général des Départements Hauts-de-Seine , in which Saint-Cloud is located.

After his party colleague Valéry Giscard d'Estaings was elected President, Fourcade was Minister of Economy and Finance under Prime Minister Jacques Chirac from May 1974 to August 1976 . Then Fourcade got in the first government of Raymond Barre from August 1976 the post of Minister for Transport and Infrastructure. In Barre 's second cabinet, she was also responsible for spatial planning for half a year. In September 1977, however, he lost his ministerial post and was replaced by Fernand Icart .

From 1977 to 2011 he was the senator of his department without interruption , from 1983 to 1998 he was chairman of the Senate Committee for Social Affairs. In June 1995 Fourcade was elected mayor of the city of Boulogne-Billancourt , which also borders Paris and is located in the Hauts-de-Seine department. In 2001 he was re-elected. Boulogne-Billancourt and Sèvres merged in 2004 to form the Communauté d'agglomération Val de Seine , of which Fourcade was president until 2008.
