Christian Sautter

Christian Sautter (born April 9, 1940 in Autun , Saône-et-Loire department ) is a former French civil servant and politician of the Parti socialiste (PS), who between 1991 and 1993 was Prefect of the Paris Department , and from 1997 to 1999 State Secretary for the budget in the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry and between 1999 and 2000 Minister of Economy and Finance and Minister of Industry. In addition, he served as Vice Mayor of Paris from 2001 to 2014 .

Life

Studies and Administrator

After attending the Lycée Pasteur in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Sautter began studying at the renowned École polytechnique , which he completed with a doctorate in 1960. He then completed further studies at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Économique . After graduation, in 1965 he worked at the National Institute for Statistics and Economic Studies INSEE ( Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques ) and during this time he joined the Parti socialiste (PS) in 1974 .

Between 1980 and 1981, Sautter was director of the Center for International Economic Studies CEPII (Center d'Études prospectives et d'informations internationales) . After the election of François Mitterrand to the president , he was in 1981 Technical Advisor for Economic Affairs at the General Secretariat of the Elysee Palace and was then from 1982 to 1985 first deputy secretary general of the Elysee Palace and as a representative of Jean-Louis Bianco one of the closest advisors of President Mitterrand.

After working as General Inspector of Finances (Inspecteur général des finances) , Sautter returned to the Élysée Palace in 1988 and was there again until 1990 as deputy general secretary of the presidential office as the representative of Jean-Louis Bianco. He was then Prefect of the Paris Department between 1991 and 1993 .

State Secretary, Minister and Vice Mayor of Paris

On 4 June 1997 in Sautter was Cabinet Jospin Secretary of State for the Budget at the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Industry (Secrétaire d'Etat auprès du ministre de l'économie, des finances et de l'industrie, you chargé budget) and has held this Post until November 2, 1999. On November 2, 1999, he was appointed Minister of Economics and Finance as successor to Dominique Strauss-Kahn himself and Minister of Industry (Ministre de l'économie, des finances et de l'industrie) in the Jospin cabinet. He held this ministerial post until March 28, 2000 and was then replaced by Laurent Fabius .

He then became Deputy Mayor on March 25, 2001 and remained in this position until April 5, 2014. As such, he was Deputy Mayor Bertrand Delanoë of Paris, initially Assistant for Finance, Economic Development and Employment and then from 2008 to 2014 Assistant for employment, economic development and international attractiveness.
