The École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique is a grande école based in Palaiseau in the greater Paris area . It is one of the most prestigious schools in France in the field of economics, statistics and finance. She is a member of ParisTech .

history

ENSAE was founded in 1942. It was affiliated to the Service national des statistiques (predecessor of the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques ( INSEE )) and was originally called école d'application de la statistique . In 1946, this name was changed to école d'application de l'INSEE due to the creation of INSEE (French equivalent to the German Federal Statistical Office ) . At that time the goal was exclusively to train civil servants for INSEE.

On November 2, 1960, the name was changed to École nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique . The training became more diverse and former law and economics students could apply for a degree from now on. On April 15, 1971, the ENSAE was officially set to the rank of Grande École.

In 1975 the move to the campus in Malakoff took place; Since then, the facility has moved again and has since been located on the campus of the École polytechnique in Palaiseau .

In the 1980s a scholarship program for PhD students was designed and in 1988 a research center, the CREST (Center de recherche en économie et statistique) was established.

The training of officials for the INSEE and administrative statisticians was relocated to Rennes in 1994 with the establishment of the École nationale de la statistique et de l'analysis de l'information ( ENSAI ).

education

The school is integrated into the INSEE in the same building and reports directly to the French Ministry of Economics, Finance and Labor .

The graduates receive the title “économiste statisticien” .

ENSAE recruits students from different backgrounds:

  • Graduates from various Classes Préparatoires . As the only école d'ingénieurs in France, it not only enables graduates of the classes préparatoires scientifiques (i.e. with specialization in the natural sciences), but also graduates of the classes préparatoires in social sciences or economics to be accepted.
  • Graduates from other Grandes Écoles , especially the École polytechnique and the École normal supérieure .
  • University graduates (degree: Maîtrise / Master )

Exchange programs / partnerships

A large proportion of ENSAE students spend their third year abroad. There are exchange programs with Harvard , Columbia University , the London School of Economics and Pompeu Fabra , among others .

As part of the Franco-German University, there are double degree programs between ENSAE and the Humboldt University of Berlin and the University of Mannheim . The University of Bonn also offers a one-year exchange program with ENSAE.

There is also a double degree program with ESCP Europe Business School and HEC Paris .

ENSAE is a member of ParisTech (association of 11 Grandes Écoles d'Ingénieurs in Paris). This channel offers the opportunity to spend the third year of study at Chinese partner universities, such as Beida and Tsinghua University .

job profile

ENSAE graduates work primarily as financial engineers, economists and financial mathematicians, as well as in economic research departments. Some of the graduates also work in the field of consulting and research. Currently around 30% of graduates start their first job abroad (especially the financial centers of New York and London are frequent destinations).
