Jean Charbonnel

Jean Charbonnel (born April 22, 1927 in La Fère , Département Aisne , † February 20, 2014 in Paris ) was a French politician of the Union pour la Nouvelle République (UNR) and later the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR), member of the National Assembly , State Secretary for Cooperation in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Pompidou III Cabinet and between 1972 and 1974 Minister for Industrial and Scientific Development in the Messmer I and Messmer II Cabinets .

Life

Degree, member of parliament and state secretary

Charbonnel completed his school education at the renowned Lycée Henri IV and Lycée Louis-le-Grand in the Latin Quarter of Paris and then began studying history at the Sorbonne , the University of Paris , and at the École normal supérieure (ENS Paris), which he graduated with the Agrégé d'histoire . He then studied at the École nationale d'administration (ENA) between 1954 and 1956 and became an auditor at the Court of Auditors ( Cour des Comptes ) . In 1957 he was also a lecturer in political science at the University of Paris and was later from July 1959 to April 1962 technical advisor to Minister of Health and Justice Bernard Chenot , before he was then again auditor at the Court of Auditors.

In the meantime, he was re-elected to the National Assembly for the UDR in the Corrèze department on March 11, 1973, but renounced the mandate on May 5, 1973 after he had re-entered government. In 1982 he was re-elected as a member of the General Council of the Corrèze department and represented the new canton of Brive-la-Gaillarde-Center there until 1988 .

On March 16, 1986 Charbonnel was again a member of the National Assembly for the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR), which he belonged as a representative of the Corrèze department this time until April 1, 1993. During this eighth legislative period he was initially briefly again a member of the Committee for Finance, General Economics and Planning, but switched to the Committee for Production and Trade (Commission de la production et des échanges) on May 29, 1986 and was a member of it on April 3, 1990. On April 3, 1990, he resigned from the RPR group and remained a non-attached member of parliament. Most recently, he was a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee (Commission des affaires étrangères) from April 3, 1990 to April 1, 1993 .

Charbonnel was one of the people who doubted the suicide of former minister Robert Boulin, who was found dead on October 30, 1979 in the forest of Rambouillet , and assumed that Boulins was murdered. He explained this to various newspapers.

In addition to his political activities, Charbonnel also wrote several books that dealt with historical and political topics.
